Default 1940 Headlight Bulb:

I was wondering who sells just your simple 6 volt sealed beam headlight bulb for a stock 40 Ford?I looked on all the down the street neighborhood parts place web sites.I figured at least NAPA would have it but could not come up with a part number! Thanks I just now found them from Bob Drakes! Is he the only one that carries these anymore?

Forty and fifty years ago when you could still find these things everyday, when ya needed a plain old 6v sealed beam you asked for a #6006. DD

Problem with the '40 is the headlight door has no provision for the alignment tabs that are on the standard available bulbs. You have to buy bulbs that have had the tabs ground off.

I think http://joesantiqueauto.com carries them now.

The problem is that the available NAPA bulb has the small aiming protrusions and the headlight surround will not fit over those little t**s. You can try grinding off the bumps but sometimes you'll crack the glass...
Joe's Antique parts carries the more original sealed beam. Last time Imlooked they were $25.

Drake's are fine too and have the Ford script. How many suppliers do you need?

My pickup is converted to 12 volts an I run 6014 halogens. I did not need to modify the alignment tabs. The 6 volt seal beam #6006 is the same form factor.
