Mercury flathead cylinder heads

I know the 1949-1953 Mercury heads have MERCURY cast into the head. Did any of the 1939-1948 Mercury engines have MERCURY cast into the heads? A friend told me that original heads on some 39-48 Mercurys had MERCURY cast into them. My 48 Mercury just has 59A cast into the heads. Is this correct?

The 99A Mercury engine I have came with heads marked 81T. Could be 91T , it's been a while since I looked at them. But they are the truck heads with the large combustion chamber. Was told they were standard issue on the early Mercurys.

You won't see Mercury on the heads of the Merc engines here in Canada. Mine say EAC Made in Canada. Not much help I guess.

My '47 also just has 59A stamped on the head.

1942 Mercury heads would be marked 29A R & 29A L.

I have never seen Mercury on a pre - 49 head.

The 95 HP engines starting in 1939 with the 99A series were not unique to Mercury since they were optional for cars and trucks so no name was used other than "Ford". Same held true after the war since all production vehicles with a V8 had the 100 hp engines. The Mercury change came in 1949 with the first 8CM engines and 110 HP 255 cid V8. The optional Ford car police engine package probably had the heads marked AS or Denver high compression heads that were for special use but that is only speculation. Since the 255 was a Mercury engine, it too could have had Mercury marked 8CM heads but I don't know the details of these special police packages.
