A gal I know entered a costume contest. She was dressed to the
"nines" in a '20's period dress . She placed second, and one of the
judges wives later told her that she might have won first if it had
not been for the STYROFOAM cup she was holding. Ooooooooops!
Not even the fine point Model A she was standing next to could save
her from that fiasco.

It's a stretch, but

"In 1930, the scientists at BASF developed a way to commercially manufacture polystyrene. A company called I.G. Farben is often listed as the developer of polystyrene because BASF was under trust to I G. Farben in 1930".

She knew she was being judged, and accessories can count both for and against you. Had she been carrying a 1930's fan or tea cup it would have resulted in PLUS points.

Rules are Rules, and its no secret that, like on a fine points car, your CB radio antenna, halogen bulbs, or bottle jack would lose you points when judged.

First Place in fine point cars or ERA fashion is an accumulation of points, where there could have been two First Place winners, or in this case, she lost that position due to forgetting that she was being evaluated for her entire ensemble.
