Hope for the future of our youth!
.........16 year old young man was looking for a set of wheels and heard
about a model A hot rod for sale----real cheap. The V8 engine was cracked and the tranny was wrong for a stock Model A. No problem, he and his grandfather removed those along with the modern wheels, tires, etc. The body and interior were stock and the fenders were found out in a shed. A correct used engine was located and the correct tranny is avail in some of the Model A stores. When the grandfather first saw the coupe and noticed that it had not been chopped or otherwise molested, he decided to get involved financially and labor wise. The grandson is thrilled and the grandfather is ecstatic that his grandson is onboard for the stock restoration. As soon as it is finished and painted, I will post it on the Barn. ONE MORE SAVED. By the way, I'm not the grandfather of the 16 year old------but wish I was! Jack

Amen, Bob! I also think there should be more grandparents like this one.

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
I do my best with trying to get my little brother and my friends into the model A's. They love them and help me a lot with my Tudor restoration. Plus I always tell them to keep em stock like I do!
Do you have the kids email? I would like to tell him about my restoration and give some pointers and just chat model A's. |

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
Have him get in touch with Charlie and get involved with the Youth Restoration award. If he qualifies, he can get money and parts to help with his restoration. Also, have him check out the Youth Scholarship site. He may be able to get money to attend college. And the rest of you donate to the scholarship fund so we can keep sending them to college.

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
My 15-yr-old grandson has taken an ever-increasing interest in Model A's since I took him to the NW Regional four years ago. I gave him "The Ford Model A as Henry Built It" for Christmas, and he was ecstatic! I'm sure there is a Model A in his future!

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
I've never understood why more kids don't like model a's. I guess i was just always encouraged to go and it was fun. My grandpa was really strict on a lot of things, but he always let us play in the cars, drink in the cars, and on occasion eat in them. I think my grandma encouraged him to be lenient. The model a was never a place where i had to "sit still, take your shoes off, dont breath too much" kind of atmosphere. My grandpa had very nice cars (both judged before). But he knew if he was too strict on things, it would become a lot less "fun". My brother and I always went on Model A stuff, my sister fades in and out of it, but now that she drives them she is wanting to go a lot more. So, i see a model a in her future too.

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
Jordan, I don't understand it either! When I was 16 my parents gave me
200 bucks to buy a car. That doesn't sound like much money, but in 1957 you could buy a nice Model A. I had one lined up, but unfortunately my dad wouldn't allow it because he was afraid I would turn it into a hot rod. He was wrong about that, but he couldn't be convinced. I had to wait until I was 21 when I was of legal age to buy my first A, a 1930 tudor. Back in those days, where I lived, you had to be 21 to do that. Ha, ha, sometimes "the good old days" isn't/wasn't as good as today. As I recall, you live somewhere in the Fort Worth area (my city of birth-----boy howdy!), so give the peeps in the area a shout for me. I lived in Seagoville for many years before leaving "God's country." Jack

Re: Hope for the future of our youth!
in 1960, when I was 15 , my neighbor had the prettiest unmolested 1929 Model A Tudor that one could have ever dreamed of owning. He only wanted $150 for it but he wouldn't sell it to us kids for fear of use destroying it. Eventually it was sold to a sailor at NAS Whidbey for the $150. It was painful watching the sailor having all of the fun restoring and driving the very original model A tudor, when it sould have been mine instead. Possibly that is why I found a low mileage 1929 Tudor in 1968 for $200 and I still drive it daily. There is always hope in the future for our youth.
