Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
Guten Abend!
I saw a Model A here today (2nd in the last 5 years)! It had on the left side a long (>15") searching light with a pistol grip. Unfortunately, in the short time, I couldn't see how it is attached. Does anyone have assembly examples on the roadster? Dankeschoen!

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
I just sold one of those at a swap meet - remember those?. Lots of people looked at it without knowing what it was till a guy I know bought it with no idea if he was going to use it. It is no doubt still sitting around at his place somewhere.

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
I have one on my Phaeton that my dad mounted on it in the early seventy's and it works, pretty cool looking.

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
Thanks for answers!
I will look for a nice used original with "Ford" or "FoMoCo" font on US-Ebay. P. S .: John, very interesting and nice that you were able to buy back exactly the same car from your father / family after 30 years!

I grabbed a spotlight cheaply in the bay. I made and polished the holder for it according to the example in the link above. (Thanks for this hint!) Unfortunately, the nameplate says "UNITY". Are these plates only available with "FORD" lettering?

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
Hi Werner, we'll I didn't exactly buy it from my family....I bought it from the mans estate that bought it from my dad in 1989. But after 28+ years it's come back around to me and I love it.

Ron Ehrenhofer in Chicago is The expert on the original SportLite for the Model A Fords. If you are interested in the details of the original Ford Model A SportLite, you can read about it in his article at the following link:

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
On a similar subject, I have a spot light that was given to me ,thinking it was for a model a . The label indicates that it was a mobilite sealed beam ,Master, Standard-Thompson Corp,Dayton Ohio , USA . Any thoughts as to application ? It has a 6" lens , a straight shaft, about 8" long, with a fluted 2piece knob for moving the lite
Thanks Don I have pictures, just can't post them. |

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
If the spotlight uses a sealed beam it is obviously made after 1940. Depending on the auto and mounting bracket it could be used on anything.
The Thompson Corp did make spotlights during the Model-A era that could be purchased at Western Auto, Pep Boys, etc. These lights used separate lenses, bulbs & reflectors. Bob-A |

Re: Mountig Spotlight On Roadster
This spotlite does not have a sealed beam light, but separate lense, bulb and reflector, so probably an earlier version prior to the 1940' s ?
