1933 Rear Axle Question
Just added 140W to the transmission and have the car on stands. I tested the shifting with the engine running, and just wanted to see if I noticed any difference. The drivers side wheel spins as rpms increase, and the passenger side wheel ticks, like the second hand of a clock, very slowly. What determines which wheel to engage in the differential for this situation?
(Is there a way to engage the passenger side wheel and not the drivers side?) |

Re: 1933 Rear Axle Question
The wheel with more drag will sit still. There is nothing in there which locks one wheel out and lets the other spin. It could be a rough bearing, brake shoe drag, a nice tight axle seal, or who-knows-what holding one wheel while the other turns.

Re: 1933 Rear Axle Question
try adjusting the brake on the drivers side drum until it locks, that will allow the
spider gears to activate the pass side wheel to spin . |

Re: 1933 Rear Axle Question
Pull the pin on the RR brake rod and set your hand brake . That will get you all the passenger side spin you want . Let off the brake and the driver side should spin also . These are " open " type differentials & will spin the wheel with the least resistance . ONCE TRACTION IS LOST . Until traction is lost the rear tires pull evenly . Many new vehicles are pretty much the same .
