Default 1933 original vs reproduction fenders?

I gues it does not really matter but Is there any obvious way to tell if a metal fender is original or reproduction for a 1933 ford. The underside is very rusted but a old reproduction fendor can get rusted too. Neither have the original paint look to them. They must have been repainted?

I don't know about all years and body parts, but on my 38 I ran into at least three different sources for parts like fenders, grills, etc. Original Ford parts, Body Shop type replacement parts from the 40 - 50s, Current Reproduction parts. Some are easy to tell apart and some not so easy.

I know recently when I have looked at the new ones, the wire bead didn't look the same.

I do not have examples to show.

I have an old set of repro fenders and can tell at the bead.. Sorry no pics either. Also inner doubling panels are crudely cut.

The skirt on the front fenders is not as vertical as
the factory fender.

Original fenders have a wire beneath the beading on the fenders and at least some of the reproductions lack this reinforcement. Not all replacement fenders are of recent vintage however as a period aftermarket company (Fostoria) produced replacement Ford fenders back in the 1930s. They are good fenders, but the bead width differs from the original as does the doubler at the bottom of the rear fenders where they attach to the running boards.

Some repos I notice do not match up with the running board on the vertical plain at the rear ,they almost need a wedge piece fitted .Ted

I used repro/Brookville fenders on both of my original bodied 32 projects and the rears worked great but the fronts needed some time consuming adjustments to work properly. I did some of the old Funk? 33/34 fenders on a customers project several years ago and the rears fit reasonably close but the fronts needed a lot of hours to fit correctly. Nothing beats originals!
