trans problem
Hello, trans seems to jump out of second gear when it feels like it . Will someone tell me the problem . shifter? thanks, steve

shifter ball out of round, pull the top you will see the end ball,easy stay at home job but wash hands.

Your second gear teeth and corresponding cluster gear teeth may have worn to the point where they "cam out" of contact with each other. While you have the shifter top off, take a good look at the gears.

Excessive end play in the counter shaft cluster gear assembly and too much play on splined parts of the intermediate gear to add to possibilities already mentioned. These old units wear a bit more rapidly than synchronized transmission but all of them wear out eventually. Nothing surprises me with these old near 90 year old units.
