I'd throw some BEST Graphtite head gaskets on it and run it! Use some CopperCote just to be "belt and suspenders" with it.

Those spots aren't the thin spots between the cylinders where they usually blow. You may luck out.

I blew a head gasket in my great running touring car. I pulled the head an noticed lots of rust stains, not smooth cyl walls. I freaked out thinking, "Oh no!!! This engine isn't perfect!"

I got depressed, thought I had to do a full engine rebuild when my buddy said, "Hey, it's running isn't it?" I said, "Yeah, it runs great! Strong, reliable, no smoke." He said, "Then don't worry about it. Run it. They are tough and can run pretty darn well without being aircraft tolerance perfect." I think you could have some fun with that engine baring any other major problems and feel good that you aren't in it for a bunch of money!

Good buy I say!
