Re: Mac's
Haven’t purchased any top or interior components from Macs but have purchased plenty of other parts. One thing I would suggest is calling for the true parts availability. Just because it says available online when you order doesn’t mean they actually have the part there and will ship within a day or two as you would think. After several backordered orders I realized they rope you in for the wait, seems to be a common practice with ecklers group (Macs is part of the “ecklers family” as the site puts it). Experienced that ordering el Camino and corvette parts thru ecklers as well.
Good luck with your top! |

Re: Mac's
Correct Sport Coupe tops are hard to find.
If your in the market for a reasonable looking and priced top, a pre made could be the way to go. If your looking for more than that. I would look to a top/interior shop that does collector cars. Top made from scratch, using the correct materials and padding makes a huge difference. Unlike the Roadster, the top on a Sport Coupe is in your face all the time A cheap or incorrectly installed Sport Coupe top brings the whole car down. Many years ago I learned this the hard way. Enjoy. Last edited by WHN; 10-01-2020 at 08:45 AM. |

A correct statement was made above regarding unauthentic 50A/B top kit assemblies. Even LeBaron Bonney manufactured top kits were grossly incorrect. Therefore, it really is more about what is acceptable for you as the car owner. |

Re: Mac's
I purchased my first Consew 206 walking foot upholstery machine due to a 50A Sport Coupe top. I've never regretted that investment since a lot of cars I've owned have never had upholstery kits available for them. I only have myself to blame if the the trim looks like crap but persistence pays off.
The main problem with authenticity is the fact that the original rubberised whipcord top fabric is unobtainium so If a person has an early car then it will likely never be authentic. Last edited by rotorwrench; 10-01-2020 at 09:02 AM. |
