Reamers, what are they for?
I picked up a couple adjustable reamers from a old ford dealership.
Trying to figure out if they fit anything on a old ford car/truck. One is 1-1/16’” and the other is 1-13/16” Thanks |

Re: Reamers, what are they for?
they are for "either" enlarging a hole to a "true" diameter OR can be used to make sure the hole is "concentric" and "true". Those particular diameters you have I am no "expert" as to exactly what they are for on the cars BUT the 1-1/16th "might" be for the spring perch bushings????

Re: Reamers, what are they for?
I suspect they're for cleaning up brake cylinders. I can't think of anything else that size on vehicles.

I apologize if it seemed like I coming at you. Please don't take it that way. I was just trying to help get to the bottom of what they could be for. |

adjustable reamers are generally for use on soft metals, brass etc. take too big a bite and they will break

My guess is that the reamers are for truck king pins, however 1 13/16" would be a big pin. I don't know what Class 8 trucks use.

Re: Reamers, what are they for?
King pin reamers, at least the good ones, are made long to align ream both bushings all the way through in one shot. If they are expandable, they will generally only expand a small amount and are not like the adjustable reamers that most folks hate to use. They have split reamer flutes and are expanded by a threaded rod with a taper on it that is tightened down into the reamer to bend the flutes out a bit more. There are also counter bore tools to clean up the recess for the pin soft plug covers. The ones that are peened need to be counter bored to remove the peened over metal so that a new soft plug will fit back into the recess.
Most old Ford pins are 13/16" diameter. The 1949 thru 51 Mercury and Lincoln King pins are 15/16" so anything larger would be either for a truck or something else. |

Re: Reamers, what are they for?
I believe you have “generic” adjustable reamers. You could & can still buy them in sets or individually for what ever you needed to ream that size. Not a specific job tool other than reaming.
