finished brake job with flat head ted deluxe kit question
hello all
i finished my brake job. The brakes work great. the car will now stop.My question is when I apply the brake they squeak. I have new cast drums and relined shoes with woven pads. Will this stop making noise after i ware them in? Thank You Kevin |

Re: finished brake job with flat head ted deluxe kit question
Congratulations.
The brakes should not squeak. There is something not quite right. Others may pitch in with suggestions but check for a loose wheel bearing, loose backing plate, or something else that is loose. I believe you have already answered this question in previous posts, but have the drums been turned and have the shoes been arched to match the drums? The only thing that could change as they wear in would be the shoes arching to the drums.

Re: finished brake job with flat head ted deluxe kit question
My experience with that type floater is limited and from early on. On a couple that I was involved with, the manufacturer recommended removing a spring which often allowed the shoe to lightly rub the drum creating heat and friction in the lining. This was causing our squeal. If the shoe linings are cold, and the brakes are applied in a distance where the lining had not heated up yet, then there was no squeal.

Re: finished brake job with flat head ted deluxe kit question
I think we removed all of the aftermarket kit and installed everything back to Ford specs. In your case, if all of the brake shoe return springs are not installed, then re-install them.
Also, did you verify the brake shoes are centered exactly to the brake drums? |
