Default Gas Gauge Question

Hello,
I have my Gas Gauge out for a new Float and want to paint the levels on it. (they are hard to read in all chrome for these eyes). I can not find a photo anywhere, on how they looked when new. Any one know?
Thank You.
Patty

Here is a photo taken from page 6-5 of the RG&JS.

It says, "The numerals on the gauge quantrant were black, except in early 1928 when the '0' and 'F' were brick red and slightly larger than the other figures."

The level readings are recessed so use Model airplane paint(black),Fuel resistant Not sure how the ethanol will react but it works on the carburetors exterior I use Aero-Gloss from Hobby shops.
