Default Universal Dampers Ltd

The front shocks on my car are mfg by Universal Dampers Ltd. I found their website, and they seem to be competition oriented, and motorcycles. I couldn't find a Houdaille shock on their site, and I have never seen one like this on any model A pic. I have no idea if these work and what condition they are in. I can't move the arm by hand, and am not inclined to apply any serious force as a test. What does anyone know about these ?

Kinda looks like a shock I saw on an MG a few years ago.

It is an oil filter. The white patch is the filter number covered by a piece of masking tape when I painted it.
