The 1CM cam came about for the change over to the rotator type valves and the automatic transmission.

That makes a lot of sense. The automatic transmission would seem to me to require a milder cam for a smoother idle to accommodate idling in gear when stopped. Maybe, maybe not.

May I ask if there is a (best) stock cam for the pre 8ba style motors with the front mount dizzy?

I dug through my cam charts and found that I did degree a couple 1CM cams and for all practical purposed they are identical to the 8CM.

In my opinion, yes; the 32-34 steel cam. In 1935 with the introduction of the bigger, heavier bodies, along with cast iron camshafts, Ford 'detuned' the cam timing.

Do you have some specs to compare the cams?

8CM that I degreed when building the 260 Merc:

9* 53* 50* 7* (checked at .014/.015 lash)

.330 lift at 0 lash

Compares nicely to the 32-34 cam Brian posted above. I think it'd be nice with the front modified for the early engine. An EAB cam is also very close to these numbers when advanced 4 degrees.

I thought somewhere I saw the EAC is .320" lift. I'm surprise the stock ones are less than .300". Seems like such little lift.

Tim,
Those numbers do not jive with these.

According to Tilden, Ford took spec'd their cams at .015 lift.

You can install an 8ba style cam in an early block and front cover. Then you can run a late style distributor. W do this all the time

I've never seen an EAC cam. I have cams marked EA and EAB. EAB had .307 lift and the EA had .330.

I’ll look again at the cam. The lift numbers were going off memeory so they may not be correct.
