Default Zenith 2405N replacement carburetor

Hello good people. Is anyone running a Zenith 2405N carburetor? They have Model B dimensions, but with an aluminum bottom, and a cast iron top, held together with 4 machine screws(no warped halves or stripped bolt). There is also a built in accelerator pump. The float runs sideways, like a B, to relieve the sudden stop issue. Anyone know of a source for a body gasket? Thanks

The carbs were sold probably early to mid 30's, maybe later. Can be used A or B no modifications.

Renners Corner may be a good place to start. Ask them.

I have one simply to "own" one. I haven't used it or even disassembled it.

However, I have used "card stock" and a copy machine to make an outline of a mating surface from which a new gasket can be cut. As in lay the bowl face down on the scanner glass and make a copy?

The carbs are around - not common. I've seen a couple on Ebay since I was into my "Carburetor acquisition period" while on field assignment and living in motels with no hobby outlet - and Ebay.

Vince has an article on his Ford Garage site that looks similar but has a different number. Maybe that can help you in some way?? http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/nosbzenithcarb.htm

I like Joe K's suggestion of 'scanning' your carburetor and 'printing' a gasket.

The 2405N and 2415N have the same external appearance. I messed with these two carburetors a few years ago. My memory is that there was a difference in having a fuel "pump" and not having it.

I have one fixed up and ready to use. I hope to test it out before it gets cold outside.

Hello. I have run one of these for years on my 31 huckster. Definitely more giddy-up, and not much difference in fuel consumption. Have both models, and don't really notice accelerator pump or not. Of course we are not talking competitive driving. Sometimes had gas boiling issues in the peak of summer, and solved that with help of part on early V8 horn bell. Have fun!

The following dimensions show why the 2405N should give better performance than the Zenith-1 and Zenith 2.

Diameter at Choke location: (Throttle locations have similar differences).
Zenith 1 and 2: 1.536 in.
Zenith 2405N: 1.860 in.

The Zenith B-1 and B-2 dimensions are similar to those of the 2405N.

The B-1. B-2, and 2405N have Power Jets according to an old Table that I made. I don't know how the Power Jet works in the 2405N.

A point of trivia is that I am certain that the 2505N and 2415N were not made by Zenith. Zenith always put its name on the bottom piece of the carburetor.

One place that the 2405N is superior to the Zenith B is with a powerful engine. The Zenith B was built to be used with a fuel pump. It has a relatively small opening feeding the "needle". I tried a Zenith B on an upgraded Model A engine and the bowl ran out of gas about half way up a 4% grade hill near my house. I would then pull over and wait a minute or so for the bowl to refill so that I could restart and climb the rest of the hill. The 2504N type carb would not have this problem.

The 2405N has an opening above the throttle plate that is about 0.090 inches in diameter. The 2415N eliminated this hole. If your 2405N is not working correctly, You can plug this opening and it will work like a 2415N.
