look on eBay bushings are the same ford 1940 on , the NOS type are the best ,they screw together, easy to install . newer type you can get from MAC they need to be swaged on ,and do not work that good .

Mac's got bought out by Eckler's several years back. Might have been better before then...

Eckler's bought out Mac's. Eckler's group owns several of the restoration parts companies now.

The machined brass parts with the grommets like those pictured in post #6 went the wrong way about fabrication. The machined brass can be peened but it can't be swaged or it will crack. The original parts for the old Fords were made like the brass grommets for a tarp. The swage fittings were pressed out of soft brass sheet stock and can easily be swaged around the rubber grommet with the proper tooling. I've seen NOS stuff on flea-pay but the rubber was too deteriorated to use.

The ones in post #3 would be an easy replacement as long as they fit both the arms on the column and the arms on the transmission if applicable.

The reference to MAC's above shows the wrong application for 1957. They also use a not exact FORD PN to have the buyer believe it is the real thing when it is actually off-shore junk.

I've used them on one of my 1951 Mercs but I modified them to get a different form of peen on the outer diameter of the bushing part so it would hold the washer in the correct location and stay together for a few years. They can be made to work but not as good as the OEM stuff would have.

I used them from Macs on my '41 . I swaged the parts together with a ball from a ball brg and a vise. worked pretty well. Lasted 25 yrs.

Post Re: three on the tree shifting rods

It is not a question of if they will work, they are simply the wrong application.

It is much easier (to me anyway) to replace with the correct SERVICE PARTS when available. Application is up to 1956. The mock FORD PN is even not correct.

The old style are just that. They were used from the 40s up into the early 50s but were dropped for later designs in the mid 50s. The later design likely won't last as long but none of them last forever. Planned obsolescence was already starting to creep in whether they intended it or not.
