1958 ford ranchero gas gage ivr
bought a new BWR302 12v to 6 v dash cluster regulator and testing it befor I assemble this again ........ my bench test is battery + to the male terminal on the regulator...........then the ground from base of the regulator to on dash mounting bolt and then to - battery terminal.......... now test light from ground to out [female terminal] on the regulator..... it blinks on and off about every two seconds........ testing with voltage meter it goes from 12.4 volts to off and on about every 2 seconds but will not give me a voltage reading my question is does anybody know if that is a correct and safe operating regulator??? and do i need to get another analog type of volt meter to get output voltage??? Thanks

I think the BWR302 is working correct. Don't know if that is the same as NAPA's IR1. If it is then I think it is OK. Look up how they work and you will see that they have a bi metal strip that opens and closes to average out the voltage. I think it would have to have a load on it to get a good reading of 5 to 6 volts.

Are you using a digital readout meter? I just did a similar test on voltage reducer for my Mustang. I used an analog meter and it averages out the voltage to around 5 or 6V as mentioned earlier. Oh, that was with the old style bi-metal contact in it. Hope this helps - Bob |
