Default shock links

I am installing Hassler shocks on my early 28 and have to move the front ones back because of arm lengths. Question is, are the shock links suppose to be straight up and down?

They would need to be close to vertical to operate as they should. Study the path they will follow as the car bounces, and make sure they will clear everything and move without any binding.
