I believe that will show the difference between Ford and the common Delco circuit.
The reversible polarity feature sort of points to Ford, but I believe the actual ground path will tell you. The instructions you posted are NOT the correct ones for '39-62 Fords.
I have continuity both ways between Arm and Field and between Field and base.
I think the instructions are leaning toward GM ,do to the fact there are using a jumper instead of lifting the wire off the terminal.

Hmmmm...staring intently at ancient NAPA manual...I think only Ford should have the continuity between A and F. The ground lug and the ability to function with either polarity are also Fordlike traits. Maybe you have a Ford reg and GM polarizing instructions...

Stranger things have happened!
I did a internet search on polarizing a generator and found alot of conflicting procedures. Ford and GM are close but Mopar is the odd man out.
Since FLA48 posted he has one working in his ride. I'm going to go with that and give her a try and do some testing.

That would be my approach to...put the fire extinguisher in reach and give the thing a test!

Just an up date. The Mobile regulator is an A circuit, It will not work on a Ford. Ford uses a B circuit.
