Re: 40 Ford car dash
Deluxe dash has holes for the horizontal chrome strips that the V8 (std) dash lacks. Same goes for the deluxe glove box door that also has a hole for the clock.

Re: 40 Ford car dash
And, if you are not trying to be stock, I like to see the Deluxe dash with the standard gauges and the chrome strips. I have modified a standard glove box door for the Chrome strips but no clock. I put a V8 insignia where the clock would be instead. Makes for a really nice looking dash .....

Re: 40 Ford car dash
Here are some photos of the Deluxe and Standard 1940 Ford Dashes. Notice that the Instrument Panel is different, and the Deluxe Dash is two-tone and has the Clock plus extra chrome strips as previously mentioned. |

Re: 40 Ford car dash
As you can see by the excellent pictures, the deluxe holes for the chrome strips are above and below the ash tray openings on a completely empty dash. Both dashes have holes for the radio speaker grille.

Re: 40 Ford car dash
The Deluxe is an early convert. I think Kube dates the early ash trays into January. Another clue on early is the grille sides. Good Luck: Fred A

Re: 40 Ford car dash
That is all very interesting. Now that you mention it, check out these two 1940 Ford Deluxe Dashes. Note different locations of the Knob to open them. One is at the bottom while one is at the top. with these old Fords, you can never take anything for granted. Thanks for pointing out this difference. |

Re: 40 Ford car dash
The first photo ashtrays (early production) push in and up. The second photo ashtrays (later production) pull outward.
Hence, the location of the knobs are different. |

Re: 40 Ford car dash
While we are on the subject, is there any difference between closed and open car dashs?

Re: 40 Ford car dash
The conv. and woodie dash differ from the other 1940 dash's. There is a little difference in width and shape on the sides at the door posts are a little different.
