Not that I am aware of.

I have used Greyhound for 50 pound type stuff. Pretty reasonable. For bigger items, I had a 6 cyl turbo diesel shipped to me (for pick up on the mainland) from Texas for 400.00. I googled 'shipping an engine' and found a bunch of engine shipping outfits. Funny it came in a UPS semi. These companies find space and fill other people's trucks. An earlier call to Yellow Freight brought a quote of 1650.00. I also had a ford 3 speed shipped from Chicago area by Fastenal for 125.00. That went really well. Hope this helps .

Last time I tried, a drum would not fit in a large flat rate. the inside diameter is 12", but the overall size of the drum is around 14"+. Within the past few years, I believe the Post Office has made this box smaller than it has been in the past.

I use flat rate a lot for heavy items and it has been a time & money saver in most cases.

I just UPS'd two NOS 1935 drums to California from TN total was a mere $36.33. If a buyer is not willing to pay that then they don't actually intend to own them.

Agreed. A bare Ford hub is actually pretty light due to the stamped steel center. Only the outer ring is cast. The new repop drums that Boiling Bros. sell are completely cast (albeit high quality) and a lot heavier than a stock Ford one.

Seems as if you're trying to sell them here.
Maybe your asking price is too high. Combined with shipping it can be crucial.

If shipping is scheduled by the shipper, ie, USPS, UPS, FEDEX...there is nothing to complain about.
If you're setting your own shipping price then maybe you should rethink it.
Or you can just sell locally with no shipping.

I recently purchased a wide 5 front brake drum and the shipping was reasonable for something of this size. However, the outer hub of something this heavy makes a great hole punch. Be sure to add an extra layer of heavy cardboard, masonite or 1/4" plywood to avoid having the part busting out of its box. No harm was done to the threads in this case.

I mailed some '35-'36 parts from Maryland to a guy in LA California. Rear spring, rear cross member and rear wish bones sent in two packages via UPS. The shipping cost was about $250.00. The total cost for parts + shipping was still less than what he would have paid for these same parts in California, and I feel I got a fair price for the parts I sold.

As years pass by you get tired of moving and stepping over heavy car parts, giving them
away to those who need them, comes to mind. Especially as you get closer to the last mile.

I can't get Fastenal to ship anything.

Funny you should mention the "give away" program. I just gave my two-axle low-boy car hauler to my best friend/Corvette & airplane buddy of almost 32 years about a year and a half ago. I hadn't hauled a vehicle on it in over ten years, plus now, HE gets to put plates on it every year instead of me. I also gave him my '48 Ford 8N about six months ago. He grew up working one on his family's place as a kid, and had wanted this one to restore ever since I bought it about fifteen years ago. We've both gone all these years "not keeping score", yet I know that I must be way ahead on the "plus" side. DD

Merry Christmas to all of you!
I am in the process of building a french flathead into the 34 Tudor. The oil pan I got is very badly rusted with a lot of pin holes. I have cut out several areas and welded new strips in und brazed over a couple pin holes but overall I would like a better pan. As I understand I need a 59 AB pan. As it is difficult to ship a big item like this to Germany, I gave up on the idea as every vendor refused to ship abroad. Maybe you have a suitable pan on offer and will ship over the pond. Would like to hear from you - thanks!

Thank you
Harty

Lawson, I have spaces at the Charlotte Auto Fair next April (if they have it, they didn't this year) I'll gladly throw them into my truck and see if I can sell them for you up there. I'll get back in touch before then.

If you’re in a Fastenal area their shipping is very reasonable. My experience has been that the weight is more reasonably priced than dimension.

A lot of folks are saying that Fastenal has discontinued the shipping of items for the public. DD
