Changing the oil pan gasket and seal on my motor and I was wondering how can a person tell if he has an insert motor or Babbitt motor . The oil pan is off

Babbit will have material on the side of the bearing saddle. Inserts I don't think have that.

Either way, now would be a good time to pull the caps and check the bearing clearances. Plastigage works good for this. Make sure to mark them when you remove so you get them back on the right journal and the right direction.
