Default Stepney wheel

Has anyone seen a Stepney Spare Wheel? These were invented in 1904 in Wales. The idea was that you clamped the spare to the non-demountable rim with a flat tire. The company did very well until the adoption of demountable rims.

I would like to find one of these if anyone has one available.

There were some with 2 wing nuts that fit cars with the same sized wheels front & back. The one pictured would fit a Ford with larger rear tires.

Jack-
The Stepney rim was a very poular accessory in Australia. Several of our club members have them for thier Model T's. They do pop up on occassion at swap meets and on Australian Ebay. I will try and post a picture of one for you.

Here are some pictures of a Stepney rim that exists in my area. The fellow who owns it is about 90 but feels he may need it some day. It is missing the 2 clamps and wing nut assemblies. The odd peg arrangement was for a leather strap that I assume was to keep the rim from turning on the original wheel.

This one is meant for a car with the same sized wheels front & back. One for a US built earlier T would have 4 wing nuts so the wheel could be centered on either end of the car.

It is interesting that these were so popular in some former British colonies that in India, Bangladesh & many others, the spare tire is still referred to as the Stepney.
