Default 47 Tonner

Just found this in Cross Plains Texas been in storage for 61 years 2600 mile truck. Thought you all might enjoy this. Not many of these around. Not crazy about widow maker wheels.

The wheels on your '47 are not widow makers. They were used '48 and later. Your wheels would have a solid lock ring on the outside of the wheel.

That Tonner looks to be a very straight truck. A good find!!! If the mileage is correct those rims haven't even been broken in so the locking rings shouldn't be an issue. When the time comes to replace the rubber I'd recommend having the locking rings magnafluxed. The few bucks that costs is worth the peace of mind.

Lots of good info about widow makers and split rims on the FTE.

Not widow makers, easier to deal with for sure.

I'm on my 3rd tonner of this vintage. Never had a problem getting a truck or AG tire shop to mount 17s on 'em until last month a guy told me they were widowmakers. When I described the wheels referred to as widowmakers, he changed his tone and said they were too rusty to re-use. He demounted them and I took them home and cup brushed the light surface rust, painted them with rustoleum primer and mounted the new tires myself. I used all the normal safety precautions. The wheels are not widowmakers. Awesome truck btw.
