I have heard it said that if all of the people who claim to have had relatives on the Mayflower actually did, that ship would have had to have been the size of the Queen Mary.

I sailed from Southampton across the Atlantic on the Queen when I was a kid, and that sucker is gi-hugic.

That's true if you're talking about direct lineage, but you'd be surprised how many second, third, and fourth cousins you have that you've never even heard of. We're all related to each other in ways we never knew till genealogy became available to everyone. It's relatively easy now to develop a family tree up into the thousands of relatives and back five or more generations.


And yes, many family stories we grew up with are false. I had to say goodbye to several famous non-relatives myself. My wife, however, born of old west blood, does have a few statues erected in honor of past relatives.

I'm 88 and still alive and kicking so I am really thankful for that. Working on my old Fords is forever getting harder for me. I am thankful for the Ford Barn which has been so helpful to me over the decades.
