Neoprene Seal for front of crankshaft
Does anyone have experience with the "new" neoprene seal that goes at the front of the crankshaft. It replaces the rope-type seal.
It is described on page A-131 of Snyder's Catalog. |

Re: Neoprene Seal for front of crankshaft
well i put one in when i rebuilt my 29 engine & i am very pleased with it! when i did it i also replied the front pulley, where the seal makes contact, as mine was worn. have not had a problem with it! no leaks, no drips, no runs

Re: Neoprene Seal for front of crankshaft
They seem to work great I have been putting them on using a front pulley hub (pulley machined off) to hold the seal in alignment while I install the pan and front cover. Saw one that still leaked, think the block was line-bored off-center

Mine has always worked well. 12 years,26K miles. Still original from Skokie antique engines.

40,000 hard miles on mine and no sign of even a weep. I can't see myself ever using a rope seal (never have).

https://snydersantiqueauto.com/Produ...earchByKeyword $21.95. A modern neoprene seal that replaces the old 2 piece style rope seal in the front of the motor. The bottom rests in the oil pan, and the top in the timing gear cover. No machining required. https://www.brattons.com/front-crank...dern-seal.html $12.50. This is a one piece nitrile (which is better than neoprene) seal, which replaces the two white rope seals (9770). Fits 28-34 and 32 to 53 V-8s.

Re: Neoprene Seal for front of crankshaft
Hmmm, interesting. I've not had an issue with the rope seals.
