I need to either reline the brakes or buy new shoes. How difficult is it to put the linings on good shoes? It looks simple. Is it difficult to set the rivets? I've done aircraft rivets so how hard could it be?

My shoes are arched well so I really don't want to go throught the hassle of arching if I can help it.

Just start at the center and rivet towards the ends. I put a drop of oil on the rivet tool to improve the rollover of the rivet. Put a bevel on each end of the shoe. It's an easy job to rivet the shoes.

Hi Jack,
I am busy doing mine now and it is much easier than aircraft riveting. With aircraft rivets you are in danger of damaging the aluminum finish, where with the brakes it is not that critical.
I have found that bolting the lining onto the shoe by using small machine screws with nuts, works great if you dont have an extra pair of hands. Bolting the lining down ensures that it fits properly. Then set the rivets one by one starting from the middle. The brass rivets I got with my set are half hollow, which makes the rollover very eazy.
