Gas line fitting

Am building a carburetor test stand out of shop scraps, and need to fab a gas line . I went to the hardware store where they have (almost) every fitting known to man, but could not find this one. What is the correct name for this fitting?

Try a Model A parts vender. Hardware stores do not carry Model A parts

I see that they all carry the fittings, and they call them 'gas line fittings'. The huge selection of compression fittings in the hdwr store all had female threads, no male threads, except for connectors. If this is fairly unique to Model As, I am happy to buy from our faithful vendors, but I am hoping to walk in, find the correct little plastic drawer, and walk out with the fitting.

I think they used to have these fittings but no demand nowadays so they are gone.

When a hardware store has "gas line fittings" they are most likely for natural gas (as in water heaters and stoves), not gasoline. Auto parts store, as suggested, for fuel line fittings. I don't recall but the inlet to a Zenith might be standard tubing compression fittings as 1955cj5 says. Those might be available at your local hardware store.

In your second photo the ferrule is located too far inward from the tip of the tube. It should be approximately 1/8" in from the tip.

That oversize ferrule is very useful.

Just a little hint that may be useful... if you have a problem with a leaking compression fitting. First sweat solder the ferrule to the tube before tightening the fitting. With the normal application the "nut" must compress both the ID and OD of the ferrule to form a seal. Pre - soldering the ferrule ensures no leak on the ID side and much less compressive force required.

A good source for fittings, fuel and brake lines, is your local junk yard, (er... I meant to say, "Automotive Recycling Center". Many yards still have an "old" section and would have these parts available. Even if you come up empty, spending a couple of hours cruising through an old junk yard, is a joyous thing.
