Re: Looking for Under Chassis (Long Tube) Headers 57 Ford 312 Engine
I talked to John Mummert a few years ago on this - he had Jerry Jardine custom weld a set of tri-y long tube headers for him. However, John had not found anyone local willing to weld up several sets and start putting things into production. I would really like to get my hands on a set.
Who knows? maybe John would be willing to sell that set that Jerry made?

Thanks for the feedback Rev !
I did check out your You Tube video on fitting a set of Scrub pipes to a Y Block. I know there are "kits" to build your own. I may have to go that route. I would have thought someone back in the day would have built a competition set - guess not. Om2 |

You guys need to watch 'THE REVEREND' install video of the REX HDRS.
Looks to be a fine part and very descriptive video. The man has class. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcwF-WPhUcA

Has anyone used these headers with a Borgeson steering box?

All I remember ... ... is those tubular log or tri-y headers or fender-well exits. As for the steering box, it is taller than the stock SAGINAW.

Back in the day when I had the 57 only thing available was heddman and they were shorty. Sooo in all my wisdom got a cheap ol buzz box welder and cobbled up some fenderwell headers. Not bad for a snot nosed 19 year old

Re: Looking for Under Chassis (Long Tube) Headers 57 Ford 312 Engine
Kind of off the wall long shot. FPA makes 57 car headers for FE’s and 429. Some limitations. He also makes the 4 tubes for the birds, of which I have a set. At least at one point, J Mummert was selling those. If there was a market, between the 2 of them there might be a possibility. FPA is a real quality product, and his bird units did well on Ted’s dyno mule.
There would also be the possibility of ordering the FE’s uncoated and modifying them. I can’t speak to the tube sizes or lengths being applicable for a Y block, and the flanges would have to be replaced. Stan’s in Auburn used to make the y block flanges, but they retired and closed up shop. It may be an employee got those patterns and is still around. He was 8 miles from me and I might be able to track someone down. They’re a shorter design, but longer than the other current options I’ve seen. Oldmics2, you the gentleman I sold the Don A parts to a while back? |

Beat me to it K. For further reference, here’s the old post on dyno test in a variety of headers. You need to keep reading, it’s several pages and more additions and test are included further on. It’s titled “exhaust test to end all test?”

Re: Looking for Under Chassis (Long Tube) Headers 57 Ford 312 Engine
'Ya know ...
I was never a FYB fan. I grew up (yeah, right) in the MUSCLE CAR ERA and the FE was the only thing that would run on the street (GM, MOPAR and AMC had the runners). The SBF during that period was a joke. No Y-BLOCKS on the street as I remember other than period drivers. FORD finally woke up with the CJ. What struck me is when I stumbled across Y-BLOCKS FOREVER and read about how they were being made competitive. That and power for period cars. The first time I saw an H4000, I was shocked. I remember helping a friend with his 56 PARKLANE and how ancient everything was under the hood. But it was one pretty SOB, it was two-tone blue and had a perfect interior. My first car was a 60 SUNLINER FE. 2nd a 64 GALAXIE 500 390/4S. I guess I missed the FYB period.

Re: Looking for Under Chassis (Long Tube) Headers 57 Ford 312 Engine
Since it was the dirt track short track there was a not so bright guy racing a 56 Ford, the shift linkage was junk, so they pulled the lever on the transmission to just run the short track in 2nd gear. Halfway into the race he started pulling ahead of everything put a lap on the big engine GM cars and Fords. They found after the race he had locked it in low gear. The old track gone now replaced by housing, sure was fun in the 60's.
