Coup rumble lid

The rumble seat panel on my friends coupe looks like if it is closed it will bind against the lower panel and not open again.
Can anyone give me advice on this issue ?
Are there adjustments to the pivot points for allignment ?

If the lower panel is a repro, they are formed incorrectly (not enough curve). If the panel is a repro, an original stiffener is needed inside the panel - don't ask me how I know this.

Is your coupe a 28 or 29? The the top of horizontal part of the stiffener slides between the top of the sheetmetal panel where it is folded over and the lower part is riveted or screwed to the rear body crossmember. The folded over flange on the top of the sheetmetal panel is difficult to open slightly to insert the stiffener. I am attaching a picture of what appears to be a nice original stiffener on eBay. You need the vertical part of the stiffener assembly if you plan to have a rear mounted spare tire. The link to the stiffener is below.


BTW, on original panels the lower sheetmental panel is a different height on the ends than the middle. I can't remember if the repro panel had the same dimensions as the original panel. I can measure the original panel on my 28 coupe if you email me: [email protected]. I went through what you are trying to do some years ago. I ended up finding and installing an original panel with the stiffener with it in it. It fit like a glove, like all original parts do.

Wrndln, You are exactly on target with lower panel issue. I had a chance to view a photo album and on the second page it showed the bottom panel missing. I'll email you and if you get a chance maybe take some measurements.
