New Jersey registration
Always had my 1931 pickup registered as a collector car. This allowed me to drive where and when I wanted up to 3000 miles a year. Went to renew today and was told this is no longer available. QQ plates which allow only drive to shows or other restrictions or regular platers which means passing an amissions test. Would like to go with regular plates. Insurance co says OK. ANYone know if model As would pass test? John

Re: New Jersey registration
An emissions test?
What data would they compare it to as there is none published for that year vehicle. If they try to use something from the 80s or newer your only hope in my opinion, is to lean the GAV all the way out, retard the timing some and pray. Something doesn't sound right to me though. Each vehicle they test has published ranges it must be within and the model A isn't going to be listed. |

Re: New Jersey registration
My brother will sound in on this- hopefully.
His A passes for an 80's car. Unless your A is not running right, it should pass with no problems. I believe they have some basic standard that all older cars must pass. It is a standard that any properly running engine will pass. |

Re: New Jersey registration
The emission test should be easy if your car is running properly. I have checked the emissions on mine and it could be made to pass as a 1999 car
I think you are allowed 7% CO, and like 1400 ppm HC I had my car running at 0.7 co, and under 100 ppm HC you have to meet the standards for emissions that all pre 1967 cars had to ----pretty much if you get good gas mileage(18-22), and it runs on all cyls at ldle it should pass ----that is if they even test it they will have you shut it off ---hand them the crank When I ran the car on the emission dyne I would enter it as a 1980 honda civic---about the same weight |

Re: New Jersey registration
I have had NJ QQ plates for about 15 years never had a problem driving them anywhere most cops are good people and unless you are driving a junker trying to use it as a daily driver you should not have a problem. if you do have a problem it would most likely be your insurance company you can always say you are testing the car after making some repairs. However passing emission with older vehicles is not a problem I have a 77 impala that I drive through state inspection without a problem.

Re: New Jersey registration
Wow Terry, and pay is a heluva lot lower there too.
Why turn a normal post like this into something political? Its not that I don't like PA, I moved 20 minutes from the border for a reason. I just don't see the reason to start a political argument. |

Re: New Jersey registration
John, are you sure your insurance co will give you the same low rate with a regular registration? My understanding was that if it is registered as a passenger car, then you can legally drive it any time. AoK is right, most cops wont bother you. I am always out driving around while working on fine tuning the engine, every nice day.

Re: New Jersey registration
I registered my car last year as QQ in NJ. Was told inspection was not needed. Ive been driving my car almost daily for about 6 months now and never a problem. Rolled through a few seatbelt/inspection sticker checkpoints and I get let through without a problem.
