It only took 5 years for the Ford Oval on the grill to go walk about!!! AND the front bumper sure has seen it's match for only 5 years of exposure

What a honor and privilege!!

I would think the one who is getting that jewel would be about like the Lou Gehrig speech, “Today, I consider myself the luckiest man in the world!” In more than one way!!!

for me, winning the lottery wouldn’t compare!!

What a treasure to study, can you maybe share just how rare the “banded ball” is?? After studying this morning I had to come home and get “The book” and educate myself (once again). Phenomenal detail!!

As Robert has observed, the coupe in Trevor's photos is equipped with a rare semi-experimental ignition coil that I have dubbed the "banded ball". Unlike the familiar '33-early '36 dome-top coil, this version is more than half round, as though it is ball partly immersed into a base of plastic. Apart from its unique shape as demonstrated in the photos below, the joint in the center of the ball covered with a band of cadmium-plated metal gives it a one-of -a-kind appearance.

It was released on May 27, 1932 for use in the Dearborn and one other assembly plant. The engineering release does not identify the manufacturer and it was to be used in production on a limited basis, once again Ford letting the car buyers do its testing. It ceased being used and was designated as "obsolete" on November 3rd.

Coincidentally, another experimental V8 coil was released for limited use on that same day and the familiar A3 suffix domed coil proved to be a success as it was adopted as the standard coil for V8s commencing with 1933 model Job #1 in January, 1933 and continued to be so until late in the '36 model year when a new coil and distributor were released for use in production.

The Mallory-designed A1 suffix "tall" coil continued to be used throughout the '32 model year.

Few of the A2-suffix banded -ball coils seem to have survived as they are seldom encountered.

To the correct spark plug tubes too!!! NO stone unturned. I have to admit, it is the highlight of my up coming trip to the Eastern National to see it in the flesh and be able to take pictures of it in detail.
