Default electric wiper

I have a electric wiper that the drive gear on the output shaft slips. I'm wondering if putting punch marks on the shaft or keying the gear and shaft would be a fix. It seems as though it is a press fit so if the wiper is obstructed this is the safety to prevent a motor failure, so keying it might not be a safe option. Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks Tim
