What headers fit best on a stock 1940 ford? Thank you

If you have a basically stock engine, stock cast iron manifolds work well with duals and glass packs. my 40 has this setup for over 30 years. just find a Good muffler shop to make your pipes.

Or if you want custom headers try Red's Headers in California. 760 343 2590 I have had them on my '41 for 25 years. No problems.

didnt say if stock or modified for basicly stock or high useage , dont think you can beat a set of fentons cast iron hold the heat inside [tube style dump a lot of heat in the engine bay] the note is just a bit more mellow than tube and seem realy suited to part throttle usage [cruising]

Just a note; Two local V8ers had their clutch pedal arm hit their exhaust pipes coming thru the X member. Bit of work to fix this interference problem. Newc

I did have the Reds pipe that went from the header to muffler hit my clutch arm, but all I had to do was to rotate the pipe. The original pipe was cut off after header.

I like the idea of reds headers. I am guessing the exhaust is the same for a 1941 ford v8 and a 1951 motor? My car came with a 1951 ford motor.
Just curious if more important to order for car year or motor year. I also like the idea of just using the stock cast iron header and changing to dual exhaust. |

All flathead headers will bolt to all flathead blocks (V8-60's and 337 Lincolns excepted). The difference is in the chassis, particularly, the steering box. I have Fenton cast iron headers on my '51 Ford. According to common knowledge, they are NOT supposed to fit "shoebox" Fords, but I got them in with some careful configuration of the drivers exhaust pipe. I also had them in a '36 Ford with a '50 Merc engine. That car had a '37 steering box, and it took some judicious grinding on both the steering box and the headers to make them fit. In retrospect, I think a little pre-planning on the motor mounts and engine position would have eliminated the need for any modifications.
I really like the Fenton headers. One of their benefits is longevity. I installed them on my '51 in 1987. When I changed the engine a couple of years ago, a close inspection on the exhaust system showed it to still be in excellent condition. |
