Default "A" Summer-Cruise from Frankfurt to...

We had left some days to cruise, so we left Frankfurt yesterday morning.
We travelled B8 (northwest) to the Westerwald .
Ulrike asked to visit Dernbach im Weserwald for a Fotostop
at the Junkjard of the Ludolfs. They (4 brothers) are famous over
here as they and their adventures are in television frequently.

Nobody home, so we headed west....

Incredible hot so we had gas bubbles in the fuel and
lots of stops in great countryside.

due to heat, tiny roads and lots of curves, we managed to go about
16o miles yesterday to Burg (Mosel ), where we found a nice Hotel with
a closed garage for our "A".

Today we started late and travelled towards Berncastel-Kues, where we left the river an turned north

Today there was heat and rain, we had a flat tire due to a valve failure. Than
the kill-switch collapsed parttime (good one - part time failure once driving, ok
once parked) . Than the spare tire got punctured (wow - 3 years without tire-probs
and than 2 tire-probs on one day....). Totally worn we reached Bergheim
(just 130 miles today)
Tomorrow, we will go to Schloß Dyck in Jüchen , where there is a big 3 day
old-car-meeting. We will be there just tomorrow and than travel west.
I will update, once i have Net-access
Greetings from germany-country-side

Your post expresses my emotions after I complete a weekend "run" to the hardware store.

Keep driving.

Keep enjoying your "A's."

Christoph,
Thank you for sharing. You drove trough some of my old "stomping grounds". I lived in Ulmen (in the Eifel Mountains on Autobahn 5 halfway between Koblenz and Trier) for 39 months and visited Cochem often. I miss driving down the Mosel and seeing sites like Cochem Castle. Ulmen is just a few kilometers from the Nurburgring and I went to the "Old Timer" races there. The wine fests along the Mosel are great!
Gute Reise!

Christoff,
Great pics! Except for the castle, looks much like you might be touring Purdy Swoft's area in Alabama, or my old home area in Oklahoma! In Oklahoma, if you can find the correct "woods" road, you can stop for a "Moonshine Break." Bill W.

Hallo Christoph,

Wow, what a fun tour. It looks like you all drove right by our former house in Boden (near Montabaur) in the Westerwald.....too cool! Yup, reminds me of the tours we used to drive through out the Westerwald. It sure is a nice region to drive through with lots of small roads and dorfs.

Your photo of your Navi was a bit off however, I can only see her feet in the photo!

Christoph,

What great photographs!! My family came from Schwaigern, between Heilbron and Eppingen, in the 1840's. Have visited there and found it to be very beautiful. Perhaps your Model A travels can take you there at some point. The Neckar River is especially gorgeous.

Wonderful story and photos. I lived in Bitburg in 1968-69, and traveled some of the roads you did on your trip. I had a 57 VW, but often took the train.

We reached the north-sea (somewhat close to its boarder to the atlantic)
For handicapped its not to funny to crest the dunes - so - no sight so far
(just dunes)

once we reached a city at the waterfront, we where shocked as
the difference to Brugge is dramatic....
To me, some of them looked like cities in eastern Europe

Christoph, Thanks for taking me with you on your trip through your posts and pictures. My family came to the US in the 1600's from Everinge,Holland it was great to see some of the scenery from that area of Europe. Thanks again Clyde

Thank you all

Ja - a wonderfull trip this is

Hi Brian - long time no contact...

Another story from yesterday....

Starting i Brügge goint to the shore and driving south till we reached France.
You saw the pics.

Now :
- we saw the shore ,
- got pics of the car in front of the big water
- got our feet in salty Golf-stream-water...

As weather got bad, we haded towards Gent (Belgien)

Lots of rain appeared....

Not the best moment to find out that the car does not have wipers

ok i took them out, i should have known

As well i found out, that i dont like the concrete-plates which
are normal Belgian-streets

Driving does "bodom-bodom-bodom" and you feel that the car
gets lighter by loosing lots of screws and bolts...

Actually it was, that we couldnt find a hotel in Gent area for 4 hours.
Dont you ever try

We were unsecure wheather we should rent a room in those
red-lighted-houses you will find there about every mile...

Best thing is, that in this region you order a coffee and will get some
egg liquer with it

Passing Antwerpen, we tried to visit our friend Peter, who i very much into Ford and
(for example) built a Ford Quadricycle replica.
Unfortunately he wasnt home .

Due to some sad circumstances, we are one day
ahead of our plans and knew that he wouldnt be arround....

Even so it it was nice to be at his place.
( Ja - this is a 28 Pheaton under this tent...)

ok - dear friends.
Today was day 7 (and last day) of our summer hollidays.

Starting in Würselen (Aachen) and leading us to our home
at "Frankfurter Berg" which is north part of Frankfurt.

Hey Midget - most US-Boys were located in this area of Frankfurt
(Elvis was in Friedberg which is 15 Miles away)

However- we had another 280km of driving through germany
and our "Awesome-A" did great again.....
