I took my 6 yo grandson and two 10 yo grand daughters on my annual 170 mile round trip to place flowers and flags at the headstones of my deceased family members, at two different cemeteries.

Very good experience for the grandkids, whom I hope will carry on the tradition after I am gone. They took pictures of all the family headstones.

They were amazed at the number of family members. I have a number of family members buried in the Athena, Oregon cemetery, which is a few miles from Steve Plucker. Nice little cemetery, upon a small hill in the middle of a farmers field.

I would also like to say thank you to our country's veterans.

Here in Naperville, IL our Model A club, the Naper A's has the privilege of carrying Veterans (only) in the Memorial Day parade. Many of us that drive the route are also Vets. The route is packed with a standing crowd that numbers in the tens of thousands and the reception is emotionally overwhelming. I'll have my Coupe and Roadster in the parade Monday. Wouldn't miss it for the world! Gar Williams

All gave some.

God bless each one.

We all owe those who have / are serving this great country a huge debt, the least we can do is honor and thank them for their service.

I watched yesterday as my neighbors up the street prepared a float for our local parade. They lost a son in Iraq and have another still serving. God bless those who paid so much in so many ways in all the wars for this nation. Whether they are still here with us or not. Bless our active duty folks also. I see so many complaining and gripping about this or that. I am so thankful I live in the nation I do. My Dad was a 14 year Navy vet. WWII and Korea. Thanks to all.

Especially the Medevac crews, Doctors, EVAC personnel and Nurses ... they saw more suffering in a month than some did in a year.

Take time to think and pray for those we have lost and those still POW/MIA. Check your local paper for Memorial weekend activites. Join in. Monday at 3 PM is the National Minute of silence to remember.

Rolling Thunder is this weekend in DC. 400,000 bikes expected. Checktheir website. This is a stuning and powerful event!

This is a special time of year to remember those who have sacrificed so much for all of us. Lt Sharon Lane was a family friend, and was killed in Vietnam two weeks before Armstrong walked on the moon. Every year I remember her and all the things she (and so many others) she did not get to experience in her short lifetime. It is so sad.

The other day, a teen age girl in the store asked me if I was having a nice day. I told her every day is a nice day, we all have a lot to be thankful for. As I was leaving, she said "Thank you for telling me that". I hope she remembers that.

Our town has a memorial day parade each year, and it is a good parade, with bands, veterans on floats, military and fire equipment, and antique cars. No silly stuff, no balloon sellers. Lots of speech making afterwards, then a chicken barbecue.

:) We had a great day today at our town parade and ceremony afterwards. Great turn out despite the HOT humid weather. We had 3 Model A's and 1 AA Fire Engine in our group parade. Happy to see more people are remembering the true meaning of Memorial day. Freedom is not free!

I had originally thought to use your picture for this post, but the pollen was making my eyes water.
