Gonna blow my horn- maybe
I have a question for the experts, I'm in the process of rebuilding my horn for my 31 roadster.I'm using LES ANDREWS hand book as my guide. 5 mfg's he states made the horns . according to that I have a mixed up horn and would like you guys to conferm that. my ARMATURE SHAFT measures 5/16 in. which makes it a AMES or G. M. I. however the motor frame measures 3/4 in. making it a SPARTEN or E. A. the 5th mfg is STEWART WARNER . SO how can I tell for sure?? there are no marks on the horn body at all. is it possible the parts were interchangeable at the time?any help is as always greatly appreciated. THE HOOCH

Need some pictures and the horn experts can tell.
Just be careful of the nut holding the wavy washer, because some horns use a LEFT hand thread. |

I believe the GMI will have vertically mounted brushes. Great sounding horn!

Re: Gonna blow my horn- maybe
yea if they are restored correctly and the horn rod is workign exceptionally well with virtually no resistance it should sound great. if its got sticky oil , adjusted too tight, dirty brushes, or horn rod/wiring is iffy then it sounds like a sick cow...

The Bell of a S-W horn is lightly stamped Stewart Warner in script. |
