Re: What is NOS what is RNOS lets get it right
What would you call a brand new Red Ryder BB Gun from the 40s that was still in the sealed box? Would that be NOS or because it wasn't made by Henry Ford, is that BB Gun now NORS?
(what I'm getting at is cant unauthorized accessories be NOS in their brand new box)

Re: What is NOS what is RNOS lets get it right
It IS true, that some NOS FORD parts were rejected by FORD, from the assembly line, because of some defect, and sold as replacement parts, to FORD dealers. They might have been good enough, with a little tweaking, but not good enough for a brand new vehicle. You just don't have the time to "tweak" on the assembly line.
I have a pair of NOS 1933-34 bumpers, which I am sure were rejected by FORD, for the new vehicles. They have a few waves, where the dip was put in. I feel that they were put into "crash replacement parts" and sold to the dealers. MIKE |

You would have a NOS red rider since it's a genuine unused Red Rider BB gun and yes NOS "MotoLever"

Re: What is NOS what is RNOS lets get it right
For your consideration.
A little history. Sometime around 1957-58 the Ford Motor Company offered a run of ignition parts for Model A Fords. At the time my Grandfather was purchasing his Ford parts from the H. G. Short Company. Iginition parts offered were A12199 points, A-12300-SP condenser, A-12210 cam, A-12200 rotor, and A-12155 distributor cap. All of these parts were packed in FoMoCo boxes that are maroon and light grey. There may have been some additional parts; I'm just not sure. I still have several sets of the points, two condenser, a cam, and a rotor. My question is, are these parts considered NOS or NORS. |

this thread may be descending into silliness, but here goes- to be NOS something does not need to be made by Ford, only if it is a NOS Ford part. when we had the 37 Plymouth, we bought many NOS parts that sure as heck were not made by Ford the Red Ryder BB gun would be NOS because it was made by the original manufacturer. non-Ford accessories are again NOS because they are made by the original manufacturer. the best advice in this whole thread is: CAVEAT EMPTOR. you won't go wrong if you remember that! |
