Default Just a Thanks to You Forum Experts

Recently, I solved a couple of problems with my '31 Pickup. First, I flushed the tank and got rid of the majority of the crud that had been filtering through the fuel system for the past two years. And then tonight I nearly eliminated the wobble from the steering by tightening the pitman arm and the bolts securing the steering box to the frame. It just occurred to me that I got a line on how to treat both of these things from this forum. That is, from the A Experts who regularly make sage responses to the queries posted by folks like me. In fact, I did not ask about either one of these things, but just read the responses from others who did.
Anyway, thanks you the Sage Ones.

I don't think that was a Henry idea. I believe that is an aftermarket fix.

I agree with you BroBrian. Yes, many Model A owners appreciate the efforts of our Forbarn experts. These experts devote a large amount of their time helping others. I am sincerely glad to see someone acknowledge their efforts. Keep up the great work folks.
Many thanks, Wayne

there was never a filter on the gas tank shut off valve,I installed a short piece of tubeing in that valve to prevent sucking sediment of the tank bottom.I have the cast iron sediment bowl on the firewall which I drain periodically, much easier than trying to clean that aftermarket in tank filter.

A pro tip.

The filter in the gas tank will reduce the amount of fuel you get out of the tank.

If you are having troubles with the fuel valve being clogged with dirt when it settles then put a short tube into the valve. This will allow the dirt to go through the filter system as you drive. The factory (I do mean factory!) filter screens catch quite a bit and the carb can eat what makes it through the 2 filters (one if side bowl). Eventually the system will catch all the junk and you can remove the tube so you can go further on one tank. Nice to have the the extra 20 miles with that extra gallon of gas.

When I was a kid back in the 60s and got my first Model A, my Dad, Uncle, and Grandpa (who made a living as a Mechanic at a Ford Dealership in the T&A days) were right there to field all my questions. Sadly they are all gone now but anytime I get flummoxed these days (and that's often) I find all I have to do is ask on The Ford Barn and it's like having the old timers back again.

So thanks guys for all the help over the years.

Ditto on the thanks to the forum experts.
I bought my pickup a little over a year ago and knew nothing about
Model A's at the time.
I have found a lot of helpful information here.

I agree with all the comments; Brent may have said it best.
And referring to Skeezixx' post, all my go-to old timers are long gone too and I miss them all. They willingly taught me so much. But, none-the-less, they still took a lot of knowledge with them when they passed that can never be retrieved. And the Barn is like having them back again.

Remember that we are not the owners of these fine examples of automotive history. We are stewards. We pay for the priviledge of properly maintaining them until the next steward comes along.....

Thanks Purdy. Tbird is so right about all the experts that have passed that have taught us so much, and could have taught us so much more had they still been around. Unfortunately we lost 4 real Model A experts way too soon just in the past few years. Thanks to all the experts and computers that have made all this possible.

When computers first came out I saw no need for one, so I put off buying one until 2001. Sure glad I finally realized what an asset it is.

I didn't hold out as long as Tom before buying a computer , but I did have the same initial reaction. I've been wrong before and I know I will have more mistakes in my future, but not fully appreciating the value of this machine (computer) was a huge error. Reacting as a curmudgeon sometimes creates its own difficulties. Ironically, I have always thought one of the greatest tragedy in death is the lost skills and knowledge a person has acquired in their lifetime. The computer has become 21st centuries Library of Alexandria

When I think of a symbol for wisdom I think of the Owl. This barn is blessed with many and on this Thanksgiving Day I say thank you all.

The above comments are very true. I think we all have gained much from the people on this form. It has been a real "asset" for me to get info on the A. I feel a person gets much more from this site than you often get out of books on the A. At least you can ask additional questions if you don't understand. Thank you all for getting me straighten out many times.
