Mitch,

Even though hind sight is said to be 20/20 at times, in your sincere opinion, if a Model A pressure plate, in lieu of a V-8 pressure plate would have been installed, what would be your best guess as to the chances they would have driven their truck all the way to Lexington?

I haven't heard of heat insulators on pressure plate springs. It would seem that if the plate got hot enough to damage the springs, the disc would be smoking.

H.L.
i am not sure if all the v-8 plates are made the same as this particular one or not. i have never really had a need to study them up close to see if the finger pivot pins are all held in by a snapring or if it's unique too this one. i dont have any more here to look at so i am hoping someone that deals with this stuff all the time and might have a few to look at can tell us if its the same or different. maybe James Rogers who sell's these can check out one of his and post a result. to try and answer your question i guess its probably a freak thing and any style clutch set up could be vulnerable to some kind of breakdown but the way this failed really sucks..

I have several of these Fox locking band assembles and after looking at each I draw the conclusion the suffix letter (or letters) was stamped at a later date than the A18305 because the spacing is random and not always in a straight line.

OK, I have 2 NOS 9" for pressure plates part number 09A-7653 for models 1935-41. I alsohave 4rebuilt 9" plates for the same years and all of the above have a cotter in the end of the pin Mitch shows. I also have another rebuilt one that has the end of the pin upset with a chisel across the end. I know where I got this one but don't know the application.

Hope this answers some questions.

Mitch, thanks for looking for a name.
Upon research, it turns out there are many lengths available. I never knew they existed!
Would you mind measuring the ones you have,
thanks
dave

james thank you for taking your time and checking this. it provides us with valuable information about these as there are many different designs apparently. i like the cotter pin first and the upset pin secondary. on this particular design it had a very shallow groove machined into the end of the pin to accept the tiny snap ring which did'nt feel secure. also there was not much of the pin sticking out to cotter it or chisel it. i put a small blob of weld on each one so that should be an improvement over this design. when the owner picks up the truck sun or mon i will ask him to find out where this came from so we can all steer clear of this particular one.
