Default Phaeton Top Irons

I am restoring a 1930 standard phaeton. Are the top irons the same for all years of phaeton? I have a fairly nice original set of top irons and was wondering if it pays to try and use these and put a new top on them or should I buy the set completely made up on reproduction bows from LeBarron Bonney. I want to avoid a top that is not drum tight. The few phaetons around here have floppy tops. I plan to use the Hartz canvas in place of the long-short grain vinyl. Any 30-31 standard phaeton pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance for any advice.

Just finished my 30 phaeton. I chose to restore and use my originals. The reproductions are too exspensive. I used 2 part epoxy on the card board in the bows to take a tack. Replaced the wood cross bows, and had all the irons powder coated. It all came out great and works like brand new.

I understand that 28/29 Phaeton top irons and bows are a little different than 30/31 standards. Also 30/31 Deluxe (2 door) phaeton irons and bows are different still. The reason i know is I bought a set of 30-31 standard irons/bows for my 28 phaeton and they didn't fit. Duh!

I wasn't aware that you could buy a complete repro top for a phaeton --- bet it would be expensive.

My dad installed a tan Hartz canvas top on his 1930 standard phaeton back in the 1980's. It was beautiful when first installed. In about five years the sun had caused the tan to fade to an ugly white. Now he has a black long-short grain top installed.

I use my cell phone to go on ford barn so I can't post a pic. If you want to pm me your email address, I can email you some of mine. I put the top on mine a couple of months ago.

Thanks Forker,
Very beautiful indeed. I will be printing them to look at things I am not sure about.
