Re: Oil pan plug
It is probably not leaking from the plug but around it. need to remove pan and braze??Has a threaded insert that the plug screws into that is leaking would be my guess ??

Re: Oil pan plug
The fitting might be leaking where it meets the pan. I had one so loose that it spun when I tried to remove the plug. I brazed it as I recall. It was about 15 years ago, so I'm not sure. Solder should work OK too if you can get all the oil out of the fitting.

Re: Oil pan plug
My 31 pan just needed heating up the lead that holds the threaded boss that is in the pan. That sealed my issue, the lead reflowed and sealed up tight.

Re: Oil pan plug
I had the same problem with it leaking where it meets the pan. Clean it up really well and keep checking it with a bright light until you see where it is actually leaking.
Once I knew for sure that it wasn't the plug I allowed the oil to drain for a couple of days, worked a rag around the inside of the drain hole as much as possible to keep oil from migrating through the leak and then cleaned the outside of the drain hole super good and quickly put a thin skim of black silicone gasket sealer around it. Been working good for me. Next time you drop the pan you can do a more proper fix if you like. Dave

Re: Oil pan plug
The drain plug on my engine never leaked until I put the copper gasket on it. I then removed it and no more leaks.

Re: Oil pan plug
Dave, I had just the opposite effect. Mine had a small accumulation with the nylon washer, but totally sealed with the copper crush washer.Go figure. Ron

Re: Oil pan plug
V,are you saying it only leaks when driven? If that is correct than try jamming a paper towel between the crossmember where the crank extends out the front of the pan. Oil can seep out from the pan seal and with the foward motion of the driven car will force oil back and accumulate on the lowest spot, the drain plug.
