Re: floor board brackets
This was from the low mileage 82-A Closed Cab Express where all my cab pics came from. Note it's an early '29 board just after the transition from hardwood floor boards. Obviously later boards had the full length straps more commonly found. Also note that the straps were 1-1/8" wide until mid-'31 (my best estimate based on an INSUFFICIENT sampling), when the width was reduced to 7/8" if I recall correctly.

Re: floor board brackets
I never thought about it until now, but here is a thought that makes sense. When they moved the brake lever to the right and widened the cutout over the transmission AND angled the battery access hole, the floor board was weakened significantly and the longer straps would be needed.
Now I realize we need to get input from folks with early-mid '29 cars with original floor boards to determine just when the battery hole was angled. I'm assuming it was before the transmission and E-brake change. If so were the straps changed at that time or when the brake lever was moved?

Re: floor board brackets
This is the first time you make me think about it. But then again i stay with "A's in mid 1930 for most of my life...Gotta get out of the box and start looking at 28/29 "A's. As of late i am working on a 1930 Briggs fordor standard build in Nov 1929 and see the changes.. How do i always find the mid or change over cars..or was Ford always changing???L.O.L.[I have cast pot metal outside door handles,no eyebrow fenders but flat screw heads holding the fronts on to the frame. I am surprised the original pop out still works ,and yes a original glass filter bowl . New standards show all 1930 cars had the glass bowl and was used as early as Nov.1929.

Re: floor board brackets
Mot, can you post the dimensions for those rivets? And can you all comment on the size of the rivet heads? I once posted (on old Barn) a photo and measurements of rivets on an original brace that appeared identical to those shown but was told they were incorrect.

Re: floor board brackets
My 2-23-29 Tudor has the original dovetailed boards with the slanted battery cover hole. 2 long and 2 short metal brackets.

Re: floor board brackets
Let me start again...
Upon further inspection this morning in the light... February 1929 Tudor Sedan; Hardwood floorboards (dovetailed); Long, narrow battery cover in stright position; Notches in rear board for the early braking system assembly on center crossmember (which this car does not have); Four long metal strips, all attached with four screws each (two stright, two stright and angled at the ends. Cut for the center push button emergency brake handle. Pluck |

Re: floor board brackets
I've had the boards out today, so could get a good look at them. Late '29 Canadian RHD Tudor [''danged forraiin A Model'' !], has front mounted 'squeeze'handbrake[ Canada kept on using them] & top board is notched for the speedo cable .Boards are in sections [tongue grooved ] with straight cut 3 1/8" batt. hole with 4 1/8"by 9 1/4" cover.Board edges have webbing tacked on. There are two 15 3/4"by 1 1/8" metal struts, curved ended where the top board fits in.The cutouts for RHD pedals look like they were done in a hurry. The top board is still in great condition but the big floorboard has split in places. Screws holding the boards in are Robertson with cups.
