Default Early 1929 CCPU Rear Tail light...

Was the rear tailight on a early (March) 1929 CCPU (two light) EVER mounted to the left rear fender OR was it always mounted to the 78-A Pickup body?

Also, could the taillight, for this time period of March 1929, have been the tea cup type or did it remain the old "tunacan" type?

Thanks.

My April 29 CCPU had the drum style on it, I have never seen a light mounted to the fender.

I have seen them mounted on the fender, but always thought that whomever did that just didn't know that was an incorrect place to mount it (them). Mine are mounted to the bottom rail of the pickup bed.

Pluck,
According to the JS the cutoff point for the change from tunacan to teacup was Feb '29 on the pickups, so it seems a Mar '29 could have either one, but keep in mind the bracket is different for each taillight, A-13470 or A-13470-A. The diagrams are in the JS. There was some discussion here regarding the very early 28 pickup taillight bracket setup - http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...t=early+pickup

It's my opinion that none of the pickups had a fender mounted taillight from the factory, but I've seen many pickups that have had the rear fender from a coupe mounted complete with taillight. All of the narrow beds I have ever seen have the two square holes for the carriage bolts that hold the taillight bracket. (Except see below).

On a similar subject here is a photo of Dennis Pereira's early pickup bed showing the early taillight base for the taillight bracket. After this bracket was discontinued they went with the wood mounting block for the taillight bracket. As far as I know there is no documentation of when, or for how long, this was used on the pickup beds.

Actually my '33 V8 pickup has this same bracket, so maybe it was constant for all early Fords unless it was discontinued and brought back.

Thank you guys!

Looks like it will be the "teacup" taillight ON the body!...According to the Standards.
