Pinto engine!! There is no right place for putting one of those in a car.

Do a search and you will find all kinds of reasons not to use that engine.

Here is a start;

Didn't the Shay Roadster use a Pinto power train?
Why keep the transmission if you're swapping engines?

Pinto motors have no low-end torque. you have to rev the nuts off them to get them to do anything

Pinto's are outdated technology.
Use an Olds Quad 4 or Ford Focus. You can get 300 hp from them.

The Pinto engine is a terrible choice. If an evil sorcerer waved his magic wand and all of the Model A and Model B engines disappeared I would go with the 4 cylinder Chevy II engine that was introduced in 1962. This engine has evolved into the current 181 cubic inch GM Industrial engine. There is a ton of information on these engines on HAMB (which is where the information belongs), use the archives there.

You are probably thinking of the kit that was available in the seventies to mate a Pinto to a stock Model A transmission. I think it was poorly designed (Model A flywheel at the end of a Pinto crank), didn't look right and was underpowered. The only good thing about the conversion was that it was easy to go back to the original engine, which is what most people did.

I didn't like the Pinto engine even when it was in my Wife's Pinto.
