Default Winter Roof Installation - 30 coupe

Hey guys,

New to the hobby and new to the forum; In the midst of a roof installation on our 30 coupe. Replacing all the roof wood and should be ready to install the roof material in the dead of winter. Will be about 50 degrees in the garage. Should I wait for the spring to complete or can I preheat somehow. Is 50 degrees or so OK? The books say to install in the sun on a hot day; what is your experience?

Thanks in advance,

I would suggest to warm the shop up, and really stretch the material until it is tight. Heat lamps on the top will help you keep the material plyable and easy to work with.

Even with a heated shop, I set up a couple of 300 watt halogen floodlights inside my Tudor pointed up. They kept the roof warm to the touch, probably in the 90 degree range or higher. Worked great.

Be sure to leave enough fabric in front to cover the header wood so when the metal cover under the sunvisor goes on you cant see the header wood. someone cut mine short and now when you look under the visor you can see about 3/4 inch of the wood.

The fabric should not cover the wood header but will stop at the visor rear. Sounds like someone did your wood wrong.

Maybe they didn't replace the metal cover (or they used the metal cover from a fordoor which is narrower) that goes in front of the header or the header wood is too thick on top.
