Default '31 roadster rumble handle lock cylinder removal

Anybody out there know how to get the lock cylinder out of the rumble handle. I do not have a key, that's why I want to get the cylinder out.
Seems like there is square button or pin in the shank, just under the estucheon. That have any thing to to do with it ? If so, how do you get it out, it's pretty stubborn. Thank you, Russ

Depends on the type of lock it is.

There are the kinds with the little hole on the edge of the face of the cylinder. Those you need to press the button while you turn counter clockwise (If I remember correctly) with the key. If you do not have the key you have to pick the lock CW while pressing a pin in the hole. See the picture crush notes.

The other kind you have to undo the crimps on the square handle and pick the lock to move the slider (or cut it flush? cant remember, only did it once). Then slide the tubular stainless cover off the handle shank. Then pull the clip to release the cylinder. You can on some handles put a wire down the hole and get the cylinder to come out. This only works on the ones with the key slot like in the picture with the handle with no covers.

The lock stuff is kind of simple common mechanical sense stuff. They are not really to bad to take apart. If you have to cut the slider it is pretty easy to make a new one with a file and a hacksaw. If you need to learn how to pick a lock just google it.
