Default Dropped axle

I'm building an AV8 roadster - which I've wanted to do since I was about 15 years old - and I need a dropped axle. Any suggestions as to where to purchase a good one? Anything to be wary of or watch out for? All input gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance, guys.

Go to Nostalgia Sids - very good guy and parts. Drops them as they used to
Used original Ford axles - not reproduction type

Sids will get you there, but Okie Joe is who does them (the early years, Sid does the later years). Just picked one up, I was very happy with the workmanship. Mine was a 33.

JSeery - Two questions, if I may. 1) How much is the pictured axle dropped? 2) Does Okie Joe sell direct or must you go through Nostalgia Sid? If he sells direct, do you have contact information? Thanks.

They are friends and the prices are the same. My axle was $200 plus a $75 core charge (I didn't take a core down). Not sure on the direct contact, I dove to Oklahoma and picked it up! I can get his phone number if you want, but Sid will give it to you or tell you the best way to go (through him, Sid, or direct).

I have had a number of them, OkieJoe is the best. Dropping axles are an artform and that is all that Joe has done for decades.

Joe did the axle in my Av8 project. I sent the spindles and he dropped them to match the axle.

He magnafluxes everything for cracks. As a side note he also restores stock axles to original specs.

Sounds like a clear majority for Okie Joe.

For those who responded and are building or have built AV8's, what year front axle did you use? What spindles? Thanks again.

Any axle from '28 to '36 is OK, the spring perch holes will accommodate a spring over set up with any of those. Some like the '32 for it's heavier look but it comes with a premium, if you do not have one the core charge is high. For spindles you can use '37-'41's or '42-'48's. The earlier ones are the so called round back and I like that appearance better but either those or the later square backs will work. King pins are different, the '42-'48's take a 1/2" longer pin.

If you buy new, look for a forged axle not a cast one. A place like Chassis Engineering http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/forged-axle-2-1-4-boss/

How much drop over stock is your axle? Looks Model A from what I can see, was it stretched and dropped or just dropped?
It looks very nice, just the look I'm after.

Many thanks,

Also, if buying new consider the width of the axle. Most manufacturers offer a narrow axle option for low, fendered cars, but used on a high boy they look a bit odd. JMO.

Henry,I used a 33-34 axle and dropped it about 2" which is 4" more than Model A. I used 39 spindles.
