Default M.D needs second opinion?

Before my patient hits the operating table: Its a 59A all vitals are
excellent. The engine is silent except for tap tap tap at idle. Its not
fuel pump coming more from the front. Anything more than idle or
driving more like under load its gone. I rule out valves cause the
tap is faster. I ran into this 10yrs ago with a 391FT drove me nuts
and swear It was a lifter. Any thoughts? I say its a wrist pin
bushing. Just need a second opinion before pricing the job out...

sam

by the way it was indeed wrist pin bushings on the 391 that noise went
away while underload--

I'm not too familiar with the newer flatties but my '36 21 stud had a similar noise. It turned out to be a leaky vacuum brake piston/bore. At idle the piston would rattle back and forth. Start it up and when it begins ticking, pinch off (or disconnect) the vacuum hose. If the noise goes away you've found the problem.
59 A's might be different.I don't know.

OK.... remove the fan belt and start it up.If the noise goes away, it's gotta' be either the generator or one of the water pumps or the belt.

A similar thread a few weeks ago turned out to be a loose wrist pin that cut a groove in the cylinder wall.
